Idaho Teen Rescues Boy Caught In Strong Creek Current

The kindness of a stranger saved an 11-year-old boy who was tangled in a rope and stuck in a strong current. Britni Strong and her kids were swimming at Indian Creek in Kuna, Idaho, when her son, Asher, got caught up in the rope and was stuck.

He was wearing a life jacket, but couldn’t free himself, and his head kept going under water. The current was so strong, his mother couldn’t get to him and she began screaming for help. Luckily, Trystan Herrera, 17, was nearby. He heard the screaming, rushed over and when Britni yelled that her son needed help, the teen put his own safety aside to save Asher.

The teen jumped in the creek, swam as hard as he could to fight the current and reached Asher. He was able to untangle him and helped him get back to shore. “It was like he had some superhuman strength or something,” Britni recalls. “He was a hero.”

The thankful mother brought Trystan a gift basket to show her appreciation for saving Asher’s life, but she says she can’t say thank you enough. “There’s nothing I could ever say or do to explain my gratitude,” she says, “because I could be going to a funeral instead.”
