There is a new venomous spider that is found in Florida.
The new species is the Pine Rockland trapdoor spider is now officially being recognized as a distinct species.
The first specimen was found by a zookeeper in 2012 in Miami’s Pine Rockland Forest adjacent to the zoo.
The spider is related to tarantulas and as a trapdoor spider hides out in a burrow and waits for prey to come along before ambushing.
