Authorities in Washington said a man accused of stealing from a store made an obvious mistake, according to the King County Sheriff's Office.

On Friday (August 6), a man entered a hobby store at the 17300 block of SE 272nd Street in Covington and picked up a $539 remote control car, deputies said. The store owner said the suspect walked up to the register but only spent a few seconds at the counter before bolting out of the business with the merchandise.

But something else happened during the suspect's getaway -- he reportedly lost his phone. The store owner ended up picking up the device, the sheriff's office added.

"Realizing his shoplifting faux pas, he stopped and turned around to try to get it back," authorities wrote. "He even dropped the merchandise, but the store owner still refused to give him his phone until the Covington deputies arrived."

The suspect, realizing he wasn't getting his phone back, decided to flee in his black 2000 Ford F-150 truck, officials said.

Deputies said they placed the phone into evidence and reviewed security surveillance cameras for details about the suspect. He's still at-large as of Tuesday (August 10).

"Mr. Just Do It should add a DON'T to his list. Don't drop your cellphone if you're committing a crime," sheriff's deputies wrote.
